FAQ
Practical answers to the questions fleets, bodybuilders and workshops ask most often about mandatory requirements, correct installation, inspection and sourcing of ECE R150 approved tape.
ECE R104 was the older standard for conspicuity marking material. Its requirements are now part of ECE R150, so newer approved tape is certified to R150.
Light vehicles below the weight thresholds are not required to have it. Voluntary marking with approved tape still improves visibility and can be a plus for insurance or client requirements.
Yes, as long as you use approved tape, keep to the correct positions and colours and prepare the surface clean and dry. Application temperature is decisive for adhesion. When in doubt, have a specialist workshop do it.
On vehicles where it is mandatory, missing, incorrect or heavily worn marking can lead to inspection failure and a fine. In the event of an accident it can also affect liability.
Approved conspicuity tape is designed for the service life of the vehicle when correctly applied. Check at every wash and inspection for damage, lifting edges or severely reduced reflectivity.
Uniformity on a single vehicle is recommended. Yellow all round is permitted and gives a consistent professional appearance. Never use white at the rear.

The right question starts with vehicle data
Almost every ECE R150 question depends on the same facts: vehicle category, mass, dimensions, body shape, colour position and inspection country.
For fleets
Create one internal standard per vehicle type to avoid one-off decisions by each branch or mechanic.
For bodybuilders
Include marking in the handover checklist alongside lighting, plate holders and reflectors.
For workshops
After repairs, verify that the replacement tape has the same approval level.
