How to keep contour marking compliant for years

How to keep your marking clean, intact and inspection-ready. Cleaning, inspecting, replacing and tips for long service life.

Approved tape is an investment that lasts for years – if you look after it. Dirty, damaged or lifting marking is not only a risk at inspection, it also reduces visibility.

Regular cleaning

Wash the marking along with regular vehicle cleaning. Use mild cleaners without aggressive solvents or abrasives that can damage the reflective layer.

Visual inspection

Check at every wash whether the tape is still firmly attached, not torn and the E-mark is still visible. Pay extra attention to corners, doors and heavily loaded areas.

Timely replacement

Do not wait for the inspection to replace damaged sections. Always use the same approved class C tape and the same width for a uniform appearance.

Effect of wash systems and chemicals

Modern wash installations with high pressure and aggressive chemicals can shorten service life. Choose gentle programmes where possible and avoid brushes that scrub over the marking.

A well-maintained marking stays inspection-ready longer and retains its reflection value and safety function.

There is no universal replacement interval

Service life depends on the product, installation, surface, climate, cleaning and mechanical exposure. Replace on condition and according to manufacturer guidance, not calendar age alone. Look for permanent contamination, tears, colour change, missing sections and lifted edges.

Repairs must retain the appropriate class, permitted colour and suitable width. Recurring damage at one vehicle location often points to the surface, construction or working method.
