Approved
E approval mark repeated at intervals, Class C reflectivity, 50-60 mm width: how to recognise tape with verifiable approval that is inspection-ready when correctly applied.
Check my tapeNot every reflective roll is road legal. Approved conspicuity tape shows four clear signals. Watch for these indicators to avoid fines and inspection failures.
E approval mark
Repeated along the strip at intervals, so it stays visible on any cut section. This is the proof that the tape has been type-approved to ECE R150.
Class C material
The high reflective grade required for contour marking. Lower classes (such as legacy R3 or old R104 stock) are not compliant for this purpose.
50 to 60 mm wide
The standard width for approved contour and line marking. Standardise on one width across a fleet for uniformity and simpler inventory.
Rated for outdoor use
Keeps performing after washing, weather and years of service. For curved surfaces and curtain sides, use segmented or flexible tape that moves with the surface without lifting.
Always verify on delivery that the E approval mark is present and repeated along the entire roll. Tape without this proof or with a lower reflective class is not permitted on vehicles that require marking, even as a temporary fix.
Many fleets standardise on one tape type and colour (often yellow 50 or 60 mm) across the whole fleet. This simplifies purchasing, stock management and presents a uniform professional image to clients and inspectors. Unsure about authenticity? Ask the supplier for the type approval certificate or technical data sheet.
An approved roll must be provably approved
For conspicuity marking, looking similar is not enough. You need type approval, repeated marks on the tape and material that keeps reflecting in daily use.
Certification
The E approval mark must repeat along the length so cut sections remain verifiable.
Material choice
Use fixed tape for rigid panels and segmented or flexible tape for curtains, curves and moving surfaces.
Fleet standard
Standardise colour, width and supplier to simplify stock, replacement and inspection.
